July 10 – The stainless steel market remained stable with a slightly positive tone today. Trading activity in major markets such as Wuxi and Foshan improved modestly compared with the previous period. Prices of 300 series stainless steel products were generally unchanged, while some specifications recorded slight increases. For 304 cold-rolled and hot-rolled products, mainstream quotations remained stable. Downstream purchasing was mainly driven by immediate production needs, and traders reported improved inquiry activity, although large-volume transactions remained cautious. 316L stainless steel continued to show relatively firm pricing, supported by nickel costs, and certain heavy plate specifications were in tight supply. On the raw material side, prices of nickel pig iron and high-carbon ferrochrome fluctuated only slightly, keeping steelmakers’ production costs relatively stable. As a result, significant price swings in the 300 series are considered unlikely in the short term, with the market expected to remain within a limited trading range. In the duplex stainless steel segment, demand for high-end grades such as 2205 and 2507 remained strong. Procurement from the chemical, offshore engineering, and heat exchanger industries continued to increase, and delivery lead times for some specifications have been extended. Market participants noted that high-performance corrosion-resistant materials remain one of the strongest areas of the current market. Regarding inventories, social stock levels declined slightly compared with last month, with 304 hot-rolled inventories showing the most noticeable reduction. This has provided additional support to market sentiment. As more engineering projects enter their procurement phase, trading activity is expected to improve further in the second half of July. Overall, the stainless steel market is currently characterized by cost support and a gradual recovery in demand. In the near term, market attention will focus on nickel price movements, steel mill production schedules, and the release of downstream orders.
