SS400 steel: a common general structural steel widely used

2025-04-03

Main properties of SS400 steel

Chemical composition The chemical composition of SS400 steel is relatively simple, mainly composed of iron (Fe) and carbon (C), while containing small amounts of manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S). Its low alloy composition makes it easy to process and welding, while maintaining adequate strength and toughness.

Mechanical properties

Tensile Strength: SS400 has a minimum tensile strength of 400 MPa, which can meet the strength requirements of most common structural components.

Yield strength: SS400 yield strength of about 245 MPa, with good resistance to deformation. Elongation: SS400 has a high elongation, usually more than 17%, indicating that it has good plasticity and toughness.

Processing performance: SS400 steel is easy to cut, bend, weld and drill, suitable for a variety of processing techniques. Its good weldability makes it widely used in construction and manufacturing.

Corrosion resistance: SS400 steel is generally corrosion-resistant, so it needs to be used with appropriate anti-corrosion treatment, such as painting or galvanizing, according to the environmental conditions.

Construction industry – SS400 steel is widely used in building structural parts, such as steel beams, steel columns, brackets and stairs. Its high strength and good workability make it an ideal choice for the construction industry.
